Te Maeva Nui Markets

18 & 19 October 2019

As part of Te Maeva Nui NZ 2019, we’re bringing the tastes, smells and crafts of our homeland to Auckland. With authenticity that is difficult to match!

Te Maeva Nui Markets is also aiming to be the most eco friendly Pacific food and crafts market ever! Our stall holders will not be using plastic to package their products, and will instead be using renewable, and biodegradable packaging.

Food

Get your hands on some of our classics – Poke, Mainese (Cook Islands potato and beetroot salad) and yes, doughnuts – and try some of the lesser known foods – Mitiore or Rukau, baked or as a soup. There are 15 islands in the Cook Islands, so there is bound to be something unique and different from each of those places.

Workshops

Join in with limited workshop sessions where you can learn to cook some of our dishes, or learn how to drum and dance! Why not try your hand at learning a new song?

Arts & Craft

The Cook Islands are home to industries dedicated to producing some of the world’s most desirable products. Get your hands on Manihiki Black Pearls – from the affordable imperfect pearls to the highly prized perfect pearls. Fancy yourself a musician? Why not try the double 8 string ukulele – not for the faint of heart. Fancy colours? We have the brightest handmade bedspreads or tivaevae with some of the most beautiful patterns sewn on. Some of these tivaevae have been made across multiple generations – passed down from a grandmother, to the daughter and so on.
